You may have heard of the very popular pink drink at Starbucks and wondered what is in this fun non-dairy treat. At the café, the pink drink is made with their signature strawberry acai beverage base (a combination of herbal tea and fruit juice) along with coconut milk and freeze-dried strawberries. It's shaken and served over ice for a fruity and refreshing drink. You will be surprised how easy it is to recreate the pink drink at home without any special ingredients or equipment.

Start by brewing your favorite fruity herbal tea—this can be done in advance and kept in the refrigerator to use at your convenience. Find a tea that will brew to a beautiful pink shade, such as strawberry, acai, or a blend. To sweeten and mimic the Starbucks product, add a bit of white grape juice or even passion fruit juice. Then a dash of creamy coconut milk is added to the drink to make it nice and creamy. This is all poured over ice in a cocktail shaker or mason jar.

Just before shaking it all up, add a few slices of freeze-dried strawberries for a punch of berry flavor. These will moisten slightly in the liquid and float beautifully to the top of your finished homemade pink drink. You will be amazed when you pour the shaken beverage into a glass filled with ice that it looks and tastes exactly like what you can buy at the popular coffee shop. Plus, it only takes minutes to whip up at home and is much cheaper.

Tips

  • The Starbucks pink drink is a shaken beverage that is served over ice. The drink has a signature foam on top which is a result of the coconut milk being shaken with the ice cubes. When making this drink at home you have two options: it can be made in a cocktail shaker or simply in a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid. Both options work great and mimic exactly the color, flavor, and coconut milk foam from the Starbucks original.
  • The shaking action also helps moisten and break up the freeze-dried strawberries. They not only add another level of flavor to the beverage but also make the pink drink beautiful and interesting in the glass.
