Baked apple chips are crunchy, sweet, and perfect for satisfying all of your chip cravings, without any of the guilt. Since they’re baked, there’s no oil, so the calories are significantly less. Kids and adults will enjoy snacking on these crispy delights.

You can use any kind of apple you like. We found firm and slightly sweet apples work best. Macouns, cortlands, and McIntosh apples are great choices. If you’re looking for a sweeter apple you can use fuji or gala. They couldn’t be easier to make! Our plain recipe involves just one ingredient, apples!

Enjoy them on their own or use them as a chip for sweet dips like caramel dip or sweet pumpkin dip. You can also serve them on a salad in place of croutons. for a nice crunchy bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples (or more, use as many as you like)

  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup

  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps to Make It

  2. Preheat the oven to 200F. Using a mandoline or a very sharp knife, slice the apple thinly (about 1/8-inch). Coring is not necessary but you can core the apple if you wish. Start by slicing the bottom or top of the apple.

  3. Pat the slices dry with a paper towel before baking. This step is important for creating the right texture and to reduce browning.

  6. Whisk together the corn syrup with a tablespoon of water. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Brush each apple chip with the corn syrup mixture. Dip the chips in the cinnamon and sugar and then place back on the baking sheet. Bake for another 10 to 15 minutes. Let them cool on the baking sheets and then serve!

Recipe Variations

  • Try dusting them with cinnamon sugar before baking for a nice cinnamon flavor that’s baked right in.
  • You can brush the apple chips with dulce de leche and bake a second time for a caramel apple chip.
  • Use granny smith apples for a tart apple chip.
  • Try a savory spin on the apple chips and dust with curry powder or ancho chile powder after baking.
  • There’s no need to core the apple slices before baking, but if you’d like to, you definitely can. The apples are sliced so thinly that the seeds just fall out and the core is thin enough that it is easy to chew and digest.
