If you’re a child of the 90s, then you fondly remember Dunkaroos. They’re delicious little graham cracker cookies that you dip in a creamy, rainbow-filled frosting. Dunkaroos are making a comeback, but they are extremely hard to find. So, we kept it real and made it as close to the original as we could.

This version is all about the creamy frosting, plain and simple. We combine cream cheese and greek yogurt for all the flavor in a lighter variation.  Feel free to leave it out if you’re going the purist route, as traditional Dunkraoos are just cookies with vanilla frosting! Serve it with graham cracker cookies, pretzels, or fruit for dipping. You can also make little cookie sandwiches with the dip as the filling.

The sprinkles will start to dissolve in the frosting as it sits, so it’s best to serve this the same day. However, you can make the base of the dip ahead of time and add in the sprinkles right before serving. Make these as a fun party snack, for munching during movie night, or just when you're looking for a little nostalgia.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, softened

  • 6 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt

  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup sprinkles

  • Graham cracker animals, for serving

Steps to Make It

Recipe Tip

Make sure the butter and cream cheese are at room temperature and soft to the touch. The frosting will not mix properly or as easily if they’re cold.

How long will the dip last?

  • The dip will last up to five days in the fridge, however the sprinkles will start to dissolve after the first day. The dip still tastes great, but will look different as the sprinkles will dissolve and swirl throughout the dip.
  • You can chop up colored white chocolate melting wafers and use those as the sprinkles if you want to make this ahead of time. These won’t dissolve as quickly and can hold up well.

Recipe Variations

Dunkaroos came in a chocolate frosting variation as well as this classic vanilla. This is a simple chocolate frosting without the rainbow sprinkles.

  • Simply melt a â…“ cup of chocolate chips and whip that into the dip when you add the yogurt and sugar. Then leave out the rainbow sprinkles.

You can use chocolate graham cracker cookies instead of vanilla with either of the dip versions.
